Q: How much time will I receive hands-on treatment?

A: You will receive hand-on therapy for approximately 2/3 to ¾ of your session. The remaining appointment time will involve assessment, therapeutic movement, exercise prescription and postural education.

They have specialized knowledge in how to use exercise and movement for therapeutic benefit, and prescribe exercise to improve particular health and fitness parameters. CEP’s can address all of your exercise needs from therapeutic and rehabilitative concerns to health and performance goals.

Q: Why manual therapy and clinical exercise in the same session?

A: Combining both active and passive treatment approaches is more effective than simply manual therapy on its own. This combination approach is designed to facilitate more lasting therapeutic change.

Specialized Exercise and Health Coaching involves appointments scheduled at regular intervals, and progress is monitored and reviewed regularly.

Q: What should I wear to my appointment?

A: It is useful to bring a pair of shorts and a sports bra or tank top for women. Running shoes are not necessary. If you have long hair, please bring a clip or hair elastic.

Q: How is Integrated Soft Tissue Therapy different from physical therapy?

A: Both physical therapy and Integrated Soft Tissue Therapy combine passive treatment with active movement therapy and exercise. However, physiotherapists are able to diagnose injury, and utilize certain treatment modalities which are not within scope of practice of massage therapists and clinical exercise physiologists.

Some examples include needling, joint manipulations and ultrasound. Physical therapy is the preferred treatment option in the case of acute injury. More often, physiotherapists treat more than one patient at a time and have other assistants help with exercise supervision and application of certain modalities.

During Integrated Soft Tissue Therapy, only one patient will be treated by the therapist at a time.

Integrated Soft Tissue Therapy will assess to determine the best course of treatment and will utilize manual techniques including joint mobilization, myofascial cupping, myofascial release techniques and therapeutic massage.

Q: How many sessions are usually recommended?

A: In most cases, a minimum of three sessions are needed to see results. An ongoing treatment plan will be established based on your therapeutic needs, functional goals and your response to initial treatments. Respect and consideration to your time and financial limitations is always given.

Q: What other medical procedure and treatments can Integrated Soft Tissue Therapy optimize?

A: IMS, pelvic physiotherapy and other manual therapies such as chiropractic and physiotherapy.

Q: What type of individual is Integrated Soft Tissue Therapy well suited to?

A:  Our approach is well-suited to individuals who:

  • Are receptive to a distinctive treatment format
  • Are willing to be compliant with active exercise recommendations
  • Have an active history
  • Are motivated to create lasting change in their bodies
  • Take a proactive approach to their health
